The Des Plaines School of Dance Celebrates National Dance Week with a Flash Mob
The Des Plaines School of Dance will participate in National Dance Week Foundation's first ever nationwide, coordinated flash mob on April 21, at Arndt Park, Howard Street at White. The community is invited to join in to “celebrate dance and promote fun and fitness.” The routine was created by Geo Hubela, a representative for National Dance Week, and celebrity dancer and choreographer. Hubela has worked with performing artists such as Jenifer Lopez, Pink, and Christina Aguilera, and is passionate about getting everyone “up and active with movement.”
Dance instructor, Laura Chiuve, from the Des Plaines School of Dance, mastered the routine, which was posted on the NDW's website. She is now in the process of teaching the dance to the community at the Administrative and Leisure Center, 2222 Birch Street. The cost to participate is $5 per person, and no prior dance experience is required. Those interested in joining the flash mob, are invited to the second rehearsal on April 15, from 3:00-4:30pm. The final rehearsal will be on Thursday, April 19, from 6:00-7:30pm.
Saturday, April 21, all dancers will meet at Arndt Park at 5:00pm for a final run-through, and then will perform the routine at 5:30pm. The dance will be video taped and posted on the National Dance Week's website, as well as the Des Plaines Park District's website. Dance studios from across the country are participating in this event, and will also be posting their community's video on the NDW's website.
“Many of us spend too much time being sedentary, just sitting in front of the computer or television,” Hubela said. “National Dance Week's flash mob is designed to get people together, get their blood pumping, and spread the fun, anybody-can-do-it attitude about dance into the community.”
