District 46 finance boss leavingGrayslake Elementary District 46's chief school business official, Bradley Goldstein, is departing for a similar job elsewhere in Lake County. Vernon Hills-based Hawthorn Elementary District 73 board members last week approved Goldstein's hiring as director of finance and operations, effective July 1. Goldstein was one of 23 candidates for the Hawthorn post. Hawthorn's Alan Hahn is set to retire Aug. 17. In addition to his financial duties, Goldstein has been serving as District 46's human resources director. District 46 is trying to fill a $2.27 million budget gap projected for the 2010-11 academic year.West Oak spaghetti dinnerThe annual West Oak spaghetti dinner is from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the school, 500 Acorn Lane, Mundelein. The school's symphonic and jazz bands will perform throughout the evening and there will be performances by smaller ensembles and choir members. A silent auction also is planned. Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for children 3 to 10 years old. Children under 3 are free. Call (847) 566-9220. All proceeds go to support band programs, instrument maintenance, and competitions.Wii bowling tournamentMundelein Park District is hosting its first Nintendo Wii#174; bowling tournament and scholarship fundraiser for adults ages 40 and older. The tournament is Feb. 6 from noon to 4 p.m. at the park district's Regent Center, 1200 Regent Drive (just off Crystal Street) in Mundelein. Cost is $10 with advance registration ($15 with controller provided). Walk-ins are also welcome. A portion of proceeds from all registrations will go toward the Mundelein Parks Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to area residents for programs such as summer camps, sports activities, nature, learning and more.
