Teen charged with sex assault at McHenry Co. party
A Crystal Lake teen was being held on $80,000 bail Tuesday, charged with sexually assaulting a woman at a house party in Oakwood Hills.
Joseph R. Wilson, 17, of the 6900 block of Lexington Trail, is charged with one count each of criminal sexual assault and unlawful restraint in connection with the incident early Saturday on the 100 block of Woody Way, authorities said.
McHenry County Sheriff's Lt. James Popovits said both Wilson and the victim an 18-year-old woman were attending a party when the assault occurred.
Popovits said Wilson forced himself upon the woman after she went to a bedroom to lie down. He said several partygoers heard the woman cry for help, forced their way into the room and then chased Wilson outside, where a fight ensued.
The victim was taken to Woodstock Memorial Medical Center. Wilson was treated for minor injuries received in the fight at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry.
Popovits said Wilson is considered an adult because the charges are felonies. Had it been a misdemeanor case, he said, Wilson could have been charged as a juvenile.
McHenry County jail officials said Wilson was still in custody late Tuesday afternoon. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday.
If convicted of the most serious charge, a Class 1 felony, Wilson could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
