Weigold, Mundelein slam Hoffman Estates
Jordan Weigold belted a grand slam, and Iowa-bound lefty Ryan Borucki struck out five in 2 innings, as Mundelein's baseball team opened its season with a 14-1 win in five innings over Hoffman Estates on Wednesday.
Chris Maranto also homered for the Mustangs and went 2-for-3, while Borucki and Torr Randau doubled.
Wiegold highlighted a 7-run second inning when he came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit a 3-2 curveball over the fence. The Mustangs led 12-0 after three.
Carmel 6, Warren 3: John Salvi smacked a 2-run homer for the host Corsairs in their season opener, and winning pitcher Alex Young had 7 strikeouts in 3 innings.
Salvi also doubled for Carmel, as did Tyler Murphy.
Adam Glogovsky had Warren's lone hit, a double.
