More buys for forest district
The Lake County Forest Preserve District plans to increase its holdings in the northern part of the county. The district plans to purchase for $420,000 the 15-acre Ernstmeyer property as an addition to the Pine Dunes Forest Preserve in Newport Township. In Antioch Township, the district has an agreement to buy 40 acres from the Catholic Church for $1.9 million as an addition to the Dutch Gap Forest preserve. “Both of these parcels fit really well within the entire area,” executive director Tom Hahn on Monday told a joint meeting of several forest district committees, which gave informal approval. The full forest board will vote on the acquisitions May 10.
