DuPage County Treasurer Named IMRF Board President
OAK BROOK, Ill. — January 25, 2012 — The Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) board of trustees elected IMRF executive trustee and DuPage County Treasurer Gwen Henry to serve as its new president. Her term as IMRF board president began on Jan. 1 and expires Dec. 31, 2012. Henry has served as an IMRF executive trustee since December 2008.
As the second largest public pension fund in Illinois, IMRF administers a plan of retirement, disability and death benefits for 3,000 municipal employers — including park districts, villages and school districts (for non-teaching personnel) — and covers approximately 176,000 active members and 97,000 retirees. At the end of 2011, IMRF managed almost $25 billion in assets. The plan does not receive any state funding.
This is Henry's fourth year as an IMRF executive trustee and it follows a one-year term as the board's vice president. Her term as an executive trustee expires Dec. 31, 2015.
Members of IMRF's independent, eight-member board of trustees serve without compensation in five-year staggered terms. The board includes four executive trustees elected by participating units of government, three employee trustees elected by participating IMRF members and one annuitant trustee elected by IMRF retirees.
Henry's 25-year career in public service includes serving as the mayor of Wheaton, member of the DuPage County Board and Forest Preserve and as a member on numerous local committees.
“We're happy to have such an accomplished individual at the head of the IMRF board of trustees,” said IMRF Executive Director Louis W. Kosiba. “Gwen will help IMRF as we focus on long-term, financially sound management and to ensure sustainable retirement income for public workers serving local units of government in Illinois.”
