Controversial vote doesn’t slow incumbent in D303 race
St. Charles Unit District 303 saw the return of one familiar face to the school board as well as the introduction of two members Tuesday night.
Longtime board member Kathy Hewell won another term on the board in an election that featured no contested races. Three seats on the board were up for re-election. Only three candidates filed for the seats, ensuring victory for all of them.
Joining Hewell are Nick Manheim and Judith McConnell.
With 46 out of 46 precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Hewell to be the leading vote-getter in the race. That outcome follows Hewell’s votes in support of a plan to create grade-level centers out of Davis and Richmond elementary schools. The plan divided the Davis and Richmond communities and sparked a federal lawsuit.
Unofficial totals showed 3,409 votes for Hewell, 3,180 votes for McConnell and 3,123 votes for Manheim.
Manheim lives in the Wild Rose Elementary District. Local residents with political interests may recognize McConnell from her involvement with the Tri-City Tea Party Patriots organization.
The pair replace board President Scott Nowling and Vice President Jim Chimienti. Both chose not to seek new terms on the board.
