MHS teachers get $500 grants for projects
Eight Mundelein High School teachers have received grants from a newly formed community group to promote classroom projects and programs.
The Community Education and Alumni Foundation presented five $500 grants to the instructors at a ceremony on Dec. 16, officials announced on the Mundelein High website.
The gifts are designed to enhance the teaching and/or learning in their respective areas.
Steve Figved, a Mundelein High alumnus who serves as president of the foundation, presented awards to the following staff members:
Ÿ Randy Lerner, who will use a personalized, online mathematics program through the website tenmarks.com in Algebra I.
Ÿ Catherine White, who will try to adjust her math curriculum and teaching strategies to meet the needs of her students in a program called “differentiated instruction.”
Ÿ Paul Thatcher for a renewable energy project.
Ÿ Stephen Rossini, who will use the money for mathematical enrichment.
Ÿ Morgan Spitz, Heather Ryan, Maureen Baker and Marisa Graham, who are working on the Mundelein High Drink Oasis, part of a jobs training program for students with special needs.
The money for the grants came from donations from alumni, businesses and community members, according to the news release.
