Moms, sons take dominoes challenge on date night

Nineteen mothers and sons enjoyed a date night out at the first Dominoes and Pizza Event on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Leisure Center.

The mom and son duos began their evening learning to play traditional dominoes. Then, as they mastered the original, they tried their luck at other variations of the game including One-Armed Joe, Turkey Foot and Mexican Dominoes.

After a break for pizza and juice, moms and sons created unique domino falls in the gym. With a little practice, they were able to master setting up the letters “T” and “Q”; spirals; right angles; and stair falls. At the end of the event, moms, sons and staff created a giant fall down in the center of the gym, using over 700 dominoes.

“I can’t even begin to tell you how excited my son, Christian, was to go to this with his Mom. He came home and the first thing he wanted to do was show me the dominoes. I know what we will be doing tomorrow when he wakes up, that is if he even falls asleep,” said Paul Bardygula.

Dawn Bardygula agreed. “It was a great night. We had a lot of fun.”

“It was great to see our moms and sons enjoying some one on one time, lively conversation, and creative game playing,” said Cindy Yelich, Special Events supervisor for the Des Plaines Park District.
