School of Dance joins in 'Bring a Friend to Class' week.

The Des Plaines School of Dance celebrated their annual Bring a Friend to Dance Week, Oct. 10-15.

The weeklong event offered friends and siblings, of currently enrolled dancers, an opportunity to accompany their friends to class, meet the teachers, and participate.

“This is a great way for those who are new to the School of Dance to experience a class and for those who are currently enrolled to try another dance form or study with a different teacher,” said Mary Williams, School of Dance Coordinator. “Our goal is to inspire a love of dance and to encourage dancers to experiment and try something new this week.”

The School of Dance offers instruction in ballet, tap, hip-hop, jazz, modern, and lyrical, taught by professionally trained dancers. Teachers train their students, with a hands-on approach to education. The fall curriculum focuses on strength training, fitness, flexibility, toning, terminology, and technique.

“Choreography is broken down into individual steps, which are refined, and then worked into combinations,” Williams said. “By the spring, dancers see a noticeable improvement in their muscle tone, coordination, and ability to move.”

Registration for the Des Plaines School of Dance performance classes is open until Oct. 21.

A complete schedule of classes is available at www.DPParks.org and at Prairie Lakes Community Center, 515 E. Thacker St. and the Leisure Center, 2222 Birch St. For more information call (847) 391-5711.
