Women celebrate free annual Health and Fitness Day

The Des Plaines Park District and the city of Des Plaines will host the annual National Women’s Health & Fitness Day from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Prairie Lakes Community Center. The schedule of free events includes:

Ÿ A workout day for women in the Prairie Lakes Fitness Center;

Ÿ A 30-minute Zumba Toning and Gold class at 5:30 p.m.

Ÿ A 30-minute Beginner’s Boot Camp class at 6 p.m.

Ÿ A 30-minute Yoga class at 6:30 p.m.

Ÿ Cooking demonstrations by Chef Susan Maddox

Ÿ Free body fat analysis by Des Plaines Park District personal trainers

Ÿ Free blood pressure checks by Madeline May, the city nurse

Ÿ Breast care navigator Maureen B. Staunton, from Holy Family Medical Center will answer questions about the Women’s Imaging Center, breast cancer and mammography

Ÿ Jeanine Stricker, LCSW, city of Des Plaines, will have information on the city’s Health & Human Services, including how to create a File of Life to aid emergency responders

Ÿ Caryl Desserich, wellness consultant and certified L.E.A.N. coach will sample Juice Plus drinks

Ÿ Linda Pankau, nutritionist from Holy Family Presence Health, will have information on healthy eating practices

Ÿ Tina Anawis, Advanced Physical Medicine and Therapy, will provide bone density testing

Ÿ Mary Lee Quaid, Lee Acupuncture & Healing Center, will have information on holistic healing

Ÿ Weil Foot and Ankle Institute will have information on foot pain

Ÿ Katie Pertersen, Park Ridge Psychological Services, will have information on mental health and holistic mental health for kids

Ÿ Patricia Haugeberg, PSD Advisors, will have information on how to reduce stress through organization

Ÿ Walgreens’ Dave the Pharmacist will be offing flu shots for a nominal fee

Every table has important free information, fliers and handouts about health and wellness for you and your family.
