Tour De Villas to take place July 2 in Des Plaines

Plans are under way for the Second Annual Des Plaines “Tour De Villas,” hosted by the American Bicycle Racing (ABR), scheduled for July 2, in the Villas subdivision, north of Algonquin Road and east of Wolf Road.

Race Officials recently met with Des Plaines Mayor Martin J. Moylan to discuss details.

The race comprises a series of competitions including the following: Master 60, 65, 70, 75, 80+, Woman Master 60, 70+; Women Category 4 and Category 5/Beginner; Beginner/Category 5; Women Open Category 1,2,3 and Women Master 40 and 50+; Junior Boys and Girls 10-12 and 13-14, Junior Boys and Girls 15-18; Villas Neighborhood Races; Master 50-54 and 55-59; Master 40; Master 30; Category 4; Category 3; and Category 1,2,3.

The course is a one-mile oblong with a slight uphill finish on east and west Grant Drive, in Des Plaines. Races begin and end at the intersection of east Gant and Hoffman Parkway, racing counter clockwise.

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. at the gazebo on Hoffman Parkway, at the corner of west Villa Drive and Hoffman Parkway. While the race does required an ABR membership Card, one day memberships will be available for $5.
