Saint Mary BG Cheer Squad "Don't Stop Believin'
The Saint Mary 5th & 6th grade competitive cheer squad took first place in the "Don't Stop Believin' Competition" hosted by Warren Cheer and Pom. The competition took place at Warren Township High School in Gurnee Illinois.
This was the first event the Saint Mary squad participated in this year and they are off to a fantastic beginning. “Our girls scored considerably well at this event” said Cheer Coach Diane Roman. “Their scores were high enough to qualify them for a bid at the 2011 IRCA State Championships, we are very proud.” The 4th Annual 2011 Illinois Recreational Cheerleading & Poms State Championship will take place Dec. 3&4 at the Sears Centre.
Competitive cheerleading routines usually range from one to three minutes, which contain the components of tumbling, dance, jumps, cheers, and stunting. Competitive cheer is a growing sport in the US and around the world. Cheerleading began in the United States in the late 19th century and has grown to international popularity. The International Cheer Union has 97 member countries from six continents.
Saint Mary School is proud to offer competitive cheer as one of the many athletic programs within the extracurricular activities available to students. Congratulations to the Saint Mary
5th & 6th grade cheer squad for their great accomplishment.
