Hersey's Haraf gets college scholarship
Becca Haraf, one of the area's premier defensive specialists on the volleyball court, will take that skill to the Division I level of the collegiate world.
The two-time all-area performer from Hersey has accepted a one-year scholarship offer from Liberty University in Virginia.
The Christian school is offering 5-foot-5 senior a full ride for the first year with no guarantees after that.
"I am thrilled that Becca will be continuing her volleyball career at the college level," said Hersey's Nancy Lill, one of the winningest coaches in IHSA girls volleyball history with more than 700 wins. "Liberty seems like a perfect fit for her spiritually, academically and athletically.
"They are very fortunate to have her, as I feel confident she will contribute right away to their successful program."
Prior to Hersey, Haraf attended Christian Liberty Academy in Arlington Heights.
She finished her senior season with 53 aces, 457 digs and an outstanding 2.40 serve receive ratio.
Haraf set the Hersey single-match record of 30 digs against Waukesha Memorial Catholic.
