Savatic, Libertyville drop Carmel
Kaca Savatic scored a game-high 14 points, as the Libertyville girls basketball team opened the state tournament with a 49-32 win over Carmel in a semifinal of the Class 4A Fremd regional Tuesday night.
No. 3 Libertyville (24-5) will play No. 6 Fremd, a 57-53 winner over Lake Forest, in the regional final at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Alex Haley and Katelynn Jennings each had 8 points for Libertyville, while Savannah Trees and Olivia Wilcox chipped in seven apiece.
No. 15 Carmel (14-16) was led by Kristine Ruhl's 9 points.
Hersey 63, Mundelein 41: At Mundelein, junior Megan Rogowski scored 24 points to become Hersey's all-time leading scorer with 1,531 points.
Brooke Evans had 20 points for Mundelein (16-15).
