‘Star is Born’ fundraiser set at M.H.S.
“A Star is Born” will be the theme for the Mundelein High School Annual Variety Show at 7 p.m. Friday, March 16. The show will be a fundraiser for the family of Mark Dolan, a 2002 alumnus who died Jan. 21 as the result of a car accident. He attended the College of Lake County and then joined the U.S. Navy in 2007. He is survived by his wife, Mandy, and two children, Kylie and Price.
Forty acts tried out for the show and 16 were chosen to compete for prizes at the event. Among the scheduled acts are several vocal soloists and bands; a rap artist; guitar solo; hip-hop, Latin and Middle Eastern dance groups and several others.
A number of local businesses have contributed prizes to be given during audience participation events to take place between acts in the show. In addition, the winner of the competition will receive a $100 prize with the second and third place acts earning $75 and $50, respectively.
Student masters of ceremony will include Anthony Adams, Amy Klink, Carmen Lundberg and James Shon. Nine members of the MHS staff, along with Homecoming King and Queen Parker Tortorello and Arianna Dinelli, will serve as judges.
Tickets for the Variety Show are $5 for all seats. Donations will also be accepted at the door.
Patricia Bruno and Susan Theotokatos are the staff advisers for the show.
