Political debate in Grayslake:League of Women Voters of Lake County, the Daily Herald and Grayslake High School District 127 will host a debate featuring congressional and state candidates seeking office in the February primary. The event will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 10, at Grayslake Central High School's auditorium, 400 N. Lake St. Expected are all six candidates in the 8th Congressional District's Republican primary: Dirk Beveridge, John Dawson, Christopher Geissler, Maria Rodriguez, Gregory Jacobs and Joe Walsh. Democratic write-in candidate Jonathan Farnick is expected, but officials said it's not known if incumbent Melissa Bean will be present. Also expected at the event are state Rep. Sandy Cole and challenger Paul Mitchell, the Republican primary candidates for the 62nd House District seat serving the Grayslake area.Historical society to meet:The history of the Lake County Fair is the topic of the next meeting of the Libertyville-Mundelein Historical Society. Dave DeYoung, president of the Lake County Fair Association, will be the featured speaker at the meeting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at the Libertyville Township office, 359 Merrill Court. DeYoung will discuss the lengthy history of the popular fair. He also will present an overview of the new fairgrounds that opened last year on Peterson Road in Grayslake and discuss future plans. Call (847) 456-2572.Early voting:Early voting for the Feb. 2 primary election begins at 20 locations in Lake County on Monday, Jan. 11, and ends Thursday, Jan. 28. Early voting is open to all registered voters from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Voters can visit WhereDoIVote.info to find their early voting location, driving directions, and to see a picture of the site. Early voters are required to present a valid Illinois driver's license, an Illinois identification card issued by the Secretary of State, or another government-issued identification document containing their photograph. Each early voting site serves the respective municipal or township residents with specified exceptions. Visit LakeCountyClerk.info.Join the library board:Cook Memorial Public Library District officials are looking for a volunteer to fill a vacancy on the board. The appointee will replace Chris Dalton, who quit last month. Interested applicants must be at least 18, registered voters and live in the district. The eventual appointee will serve until spring 2011. To apply, get an application at the temporary library, 114 N. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville, or at the Evergreen Interim Library, 290 Evergreen Drive, Vernon Hills. The form also is available at cooklib.org. Completed applications must be delivered by Jan. 29.
