Hundreds Attend Des Plaines Fire Department Open House

Rain and dreary weather did not dampen the spirits and enthusiasm of hundreds of residents and non-residents who attended the Des Plaines Fire Department’s Open House, 11 AM – 3 PM, Saturday, October 13, 2012 at Fire Station #3, 130 E. Thacker Street. Highlights of the day included a Tactical Rescue Demonstration, an Auto Extrication Demonstration, a Live Burn Sprinkler Demonstration, and displays of public safety vehicles and equipment. Also featured were bounce houses for children, a children’s fire safety house, a button-making station, information displays by the City’s Health and Human Services office and citizen volunteer Fire Corps, visits with Sparky the Fire Dog and McGruff the crime-fighting dog, hotdogs, popcorn, chances to win smoke detectors and other raffle prizes, CPR demonstrations and more.
