Geneva roadwork:New pavement markings will be installed on Fabyan Parkway over the Mill Creek bridge (just west of Kaneville Road) beginning today, weather permitting. Traffic alerts are available at co.kane.il.us/DOT.Plato roundabout:The Kane County Department of Transportation is hosting an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. today for public comments on a proposed roundabout at the intersection of Route 47 and Burlington Road in Plato Township. The event will be at the KDOT facility at 41W011 Burlington Road, just north of Empire Road. For more information on the project, visit co.kane.il.us/dot and click on "Construction Projects," then "Burlington Road and Illinois Route 47."DUI crackdown: Starting Friday St. Charles police will conduct a two-week traffic safety campaign with an emphasis on impaired driving. This is the sixth year the police department has participated in the Illinois Department of Transportation's "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose" campaign. Extra officers will be on patrol through Labor Day for additional DUI enforcement. Officers also will be on the lookout for speeding and seat belt violations.Cardboard boat races:A record 19 boats are scheduled to participate in the eighth annual What Floats Your Cardboard Boat Race at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mastodon Lake in Aurora's Phillips Park. The race launches Fox Valley United Way's 2010-11 fundraising campaign. The event is free.Kaneland 302 testing:Preschool screening for Kaneland students who may qualify for special education services is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Sept. 3. Staff can help with program registration, purchase of pool passes and fitness memberships and answer other questions.
