Schaumburg-Hoffman Lions Club donates to Hurricane Dorian relief
On Labor Day weekend, thousands of people enjoyed the beautiful weather at Schaumburg Septemberfest. Many of them visited the Bingo Tent, which this year was operated for the first time by the Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Lions Club.
During those same three days, Hurricane Dorian caused death and devastation in the Bahamas and Southeastern USA.
The funds raised by the Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Lions Club at this year's Septemberfest Bingo Tent helped make it possible for the club to make a $1,000 donation to the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF). One-hundred percent of this donation will go directly to hurricane relief. To assist with immediate relief efforts, LCIF has awarded a $100,000 Major Catastrophe grant to local Lions to support the families who are struggling in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian.
Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Lions Club offers more fundraising events in the coming weeks that provide an evening of entertainment, including Trivia for a Cause on September 21 at Poplar Creek Bowl in Hoffman Estates, and a wine-and-food tasting event on Nov. 16 at Trickster Art Gallery in Schaumburg. Details are available at www.shlions.org. Proceeds from these events will support the Lions Clubs' mission to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding.
