Local League of Women Voters presents 'Abolish the Electoral College: Why We Need to Do It Now' March 1

On Tuesday, March 1, the League of Women Voters of Roselle-Bloomingdale will host an online presentation, "Abolish the Electoral College" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Zoom.

Speaker Rosemary Heileman, vice president of the League of Women Voters of Illinois and Issues and Advocacy co-chair, has been actively involved in bringing this issue to the League's attention through grassroots efforts.

As a founding member of the League of Women Voters of Deerfield Electoral College Committee, Heileman has been working since 2017 to educate the public about the need for a Constitutional amendment to permanently abolish the Electoral College.

Register at www.lwvrb.org.

The Electoral College system is a relic from the 18th century that was a last-minute compromise by the framers of the U.S. Constitution. It has evolved in unexpected ways and includes loopholes that allow for manipulation of the popular vote. Learn why it should be abolished in favor of a system that counts all the votes in one total result.

Set aside Tuesday, March 1, to join the League and gain perspective on why abolishing the Electoral College is so important to the future of our democracy.

This event is free and open to the public and attendees are not obligated to become a League member.
