Christ Church: Ash Wednesday and the Lenten season helps us reflect, find peace
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent and an opportunity to make time to examine our lives, look at the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus and let go of anything that keeps us from living the life for which we were created.
Christ Church invites the public to in person and online worship for Ash Wednesday services at 7 p.m. March 2 at both its Oak Brook campus at 501 Oak Brook Road and Butterfield location at 2S361 Glen Park Road in Lombard.
"As things continue to feel more and more out of our control in the world, Ash Wednesday and the entire season of Lent draw us to find peace in giving up control of the things we grasp tight," said Aaron Foster, Creative Arts Producer at Christ Church Oak Brook. "Ash Wednesday serves as a reminder that we don't control even our very lives, but the One who does holds us close and has an even more full experience of life in store for us."
The imposition of ashes will be offered at 7:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at the Oak Brook location and during worship at both campuses. Ash Wednesday packets will be available beginning Sunday, Feb. 27 at the church's Oak Brook campus and at the Butterfield campus for those who prefer to join worship remotely. Those worshipping from home may also participate without the packet materials-we will guide people in the service through the experience.
Everyone is welcome. Our time together is designed for adults, students, and children ages six and above. While there will not be separate children's programming for the service, the church encourages your whole family to join in marking the beginning of Lent together.
"Join us for our Ash Wednesday service where we will kick off the Lenten season by pausing in the pace of life, remembering our finiteness, and beginning the journey of keeping Lent together to grow in faith in Jesus," Foster said.
