Wheaton bicyclist suffered serious injuries in Tuesday crash
A 68-year-old Wheaton man is being treated for serious injuries after a Tuesday afternoon crash in unincorporated DuPage County near Wheaton.
Sgt. Robert Harris, of the DuPage County sheriff's department said a 21-year-old female College of DuPage student was heading home from school around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when she lost control of her car on Leask Lane, south of Butterfield Road, striking the man on his bicycle.
"He did have serious injuries, but none that were believed by the doctors at Central DuPage Hospital to be life-threatening," Harris said. "She was cited for failure to reduce speed."
Harris said the driver was not intoxicated and investigators searched her phone to determine she had not been texting or on a call.
"She called 911 and was giving aid to the guy she hit, so she was doing everything right, at least in terms of after the crash," Harris said.
