This is a black swallowtail butterfly I fostered from egg to butterfly in my home and released in my backyard on August 7, 2017. I placed it in the flox plants to give it a chance for a sip of nectar before it went on its way into the big, wide world. I love how perfect its wings are and the contrast of colors between the flowers and its wings. This was the first black swallowtail I'd ever fostered, as I usually foster monarchs.
