With fall colors nearing peak, bridges add visual appeal to this look at Lake Glenview

Fall colors are nearing their peak in this view of one of two bridges that cross Lake Glenview at Gallery Park taken Tuesday.

Built in 2000, the bridges span the southernmost portion of the lake connecting an island to a network of pathways.

In addition to the fall colors, I like the lines that the pathways form as they make their way around the lake. Though barely discernible from this altitude, around 150 feet, a person wearing bright pink is one of two people crossing the light gray bridge.

Though I did take a wider view that showed both bridges, I decided to focus on just the one bridge for this presentation because I wanted the bridge to me more prominent, or "tighter," in the frame. The alternate view was too "loose."

Even though it was sunny and relatively calm this morning, I always check the weather before flying the drone, which I did in conjunction with obtaining an FAA authorization to fly here. Weather can be strange though, and during the 10-minute flight the wind speed increased noticeably and clouds that seemed distant a short while before rolled in rapidly, so I decided to end the flight and return to home base.

Following the flight, I walked around much of the lake to photograph fall colors and the variety of wildflowers that are still in bloom. While the paved pathways that wind their way around the lake are frequented by people walking and jogging, there are gravel turnouts that go closer to the shoreline.

Several signs provide information about the lake and how it is used to collect stormwater from the surrounding area, in addition to signs about the local flora and wildlife. Largemouth bass, northern pike, channel catfish, bullfrogs, snapping turtles, coyotes and great blue heron, in addition to the ubiquitous Canada geese and mallard ducks, are present at Lake Glenview.
