Bloomingdale Library celebrates moon landing
The Bloomingdale Public Library this month is celebrating a landmark achievement in world history.
On July 20, 1969, NASA astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first Americans to land on the moon in the Apollo 11 space journey.
Historian Jim Gibbons will discuss the space goal proposed by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 and how this mission was accomplished for the U.S. in 1969 when he speaks on "The Moon Landing - 50th Anniversary," from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, July 15, at the library, 101 Fairfield Way.
Then, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, the library will present a drop-in matinee of "First Man" starring Ryan Gosling as Neil Armstrong. Popcorn and refreshments will be provided and patrons can enter for a chance to win the movie on DVD - you must be present to win.
The events are free and open to the public. Registration is required for "The Moon Landing"; visit www.mybpl.org to register.
