Village of Arlington Heights Senior Citizens Commission Recognizes 2023 Kenneth Hood Award Winner Steven Schultz

The Village of Arlington Heights Senior Citizens Commission proudly announces the 2023 Kenneth Hood Award to Steven Schultz, volunteer, and Treasurer for the Arlington Heights Senior Center, Inc. Foundation. The Foundation serves as the non-profit fundraising arm for the eight partner agencies in the Arlington Heights Senior Center.

The award is a once-in-a-lifetime honor for the Arlington Heights Senior Commission members to recognize, acknowledge, and memorialize Dr. Kenneth Hood. Dr. Kenneth Hood diligently and passionately served as a committed advocate and volunteer for a better life for his fellow senior citizens here in Arlington Heights for many decades. On his 100th birthday celebration, July 31, 2006, Dr. Hood advised that it was time to "pass the torch" of volunteering. The Dr. Kenneth Hood Award is announced today in honor of his contributions to Arlington Heights. Mr. Schultz will have the award presented at an upcoming Village of Arlington Heights Board Meeting.

Mr. Schultz joined Arlington Heights Senior Center INC in May 2014 and, with his professional background in finance, quickly became the Senior INC Treasurer, a position he still currently holds. Steven's contributions to Senior INC have significantly impacted all who use the Arlington Heights Senior Center daily. In addition to monthly financial reporting, appropriate filing for the organization's non-profit status, and distribution of funding requests, Steven saved Senior INC thousands of dollars after he detected a scam that nearly depleted INC's bank account. Steve worked relentlessly to recoup every cent lost, allowing INC to continue supporting the Arlington Heights Senior Center and the eight resident agencies. As Steven wraps up nine years of dedicated service on the INC Board, he remains a staunch supporter of Senior INC and all programming at the Arlington Heights Senior Center. His attention to financial details has positioned Senior INC to continue its mission to support the Senior Center for years to come.

Steven has been the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Village Bank & Trust and Schaumburg Bank & Trust for 16 years. He has lived in Buffalo Grove, IL, for 32 years with his wife and three children. He is the current Treasurer of the Arlington Heights Senior Center, Inc. Board.
