Saint Viator Summer Camps Running at Capacity

When the school year ends, it is fair to assume that hallways are quiet and a slower pace exists for those still in a school facility. Not so this summer at Saint Viator. One year after cancelling or greatly curtailing summer camps due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Saint Viator is currently hosting more than 500 third- through eighth-graders in several dozen athletic, arts and service camps.

"We are so fortunate to be able to welcome so many boys and girls to our campus for these camps," said Saint Viator Athletic Director Jason Kuffel. "Our activity in 2020 was greatly limited due to COVID, so it is especially pleasing to see our various camps running at full capacity."

Camp participants are still required to wear masks and follow various COVID protocols, but participants and instructors are once again able to experience various levels of teaching and competition, according to Maggie Wiener, assistant director of Enrollment.

"We were pleased to provide 140 days of in-person learning this school year, and due to our protocols and procedures, can continue welcoming current and prospective students in for our very popular summer camp programs," Wiener said.

Kuffel noted that basketball campers were treated to a visit by former Saint Viator stand-out and current member of the Kent State University program, Jeremiah Hernandez.

"So many of our athletes make time to return and work with younger players over the summer. It really represents our Lion for Life philosophy."

In addition to athletic camps, programs for the arts and the school's highly popular Service and Song Camp are also part of the summer plan.

"It has been a long and challenging year,"said Kuffel, "but having such a tremendous turn-out for these camps has really brought a great deal of energy and enthusiasm to the building."
