CALEA Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public Comment

The Schaumburg Police Department is scheduled to undergo a substantive on-site assessment as part of a program to retain its internationally accredited status by verifying that it meets professional standards.

Administered by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®), the accreditation program requires police agencies to comply with standards in the areas of policy and procedures, administration, operations, and support services. The Schaumburg Police Department was the first law enforcement agency in Illinois to gain accreditation with CALEA in 1986, and is seeking its tenth award.

As part of the village's onsite assessment, the public is asked to provide its feedback on how the police department complies with CALEA standards.

The CALEA assessment team will host a public comment session at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 in the Community Room at the Schaumburg Police Department, 1000 W. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg.

The CALEA assessment team will also accept telephone comments at (847) 348-7035 on Tuesday, Nov. 5 between the hours of 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. This phone line will be answered by a member of the CALEA assessment team.

Due to time constraints, telephone comments as well as appearances at the public hearing must address the Schaumburg Police Department's ability to comply with CALEA Standards. A copy of the standards is available for examination during business hours at the Schaumburg Police Department. The local contact is Hiroshi Witt, who can be reached at (847) 348-7060 or hwitt@schaumburg.com.

Anyone wishing to submit comments about the Schaumburg Police Department's ability to comply with the accreditation standards may write to: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia 20155.
