Authorities: Man damaged Flock cameras, speed camera in Glendale Heights, Bloomingdale
A Glendale Heights man has been accused of damaging a speed radar unit near an elementary school, stealing automated license-plate-reading cameras and vandalizing other plate readers.
Hayden Green, 19, of the 300 block of East Altgeld Avenue, is charged with three counts of theft of government property and three counts of criminal damage to government-supported property. All are felony charges.
He was arrested Aug. 20. The charges are non-detainable, so he was released from jail Friday morning.
A news release from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office said that around 8 a.m. Aug. 14, Glendale Heights police saw that five Flock-brand APLR cameras had been vandalized with spray paint, and the wires to one of them had been cut. They also allege that two cameras had been cut off their poles and were missing.
The charges also allege that the solar panel attached to a pole-mounted radar unit near Reskin Elementary School in Glendale Heights had shattered glass, and electrical wires to the display had been cut.
Green is accused of doing the damage and theft between midnight and 2 a.m. Aug. 14.
The news release said he is also suspected of damaging and stealing ALPR cameras in unincorporated DuPage County and in Bloomingdale.
According to authorities, a bent blade for a reciprocating saw, a pair of infrared night-vision binoculars and a notepad were found in Green’s car. The news release said the notepad had writings by Green.
His next court date is Sept. 14.
