Schaumburg Boomers mascot Coop visits kids at St. Alexius Hospital

Coop, the greater prairie chicken mascot of the Schaumburg Boomers baseball team, brought some cheer Friday to pediatric patients at Ascension Saint Alexius Women & Children’s Hospital in Hoffman Estates.

Many of the kids who met with Coop have been in isolation during their treatment at the hospital.

The team’s name is a common nickname for the male great prairie chickens native to Illinois because of the sound they make.
