Funeral set for Mundelein police officer killed in off-duty crash

Visitation for a Mundelein police officer who died following an off-duty motorcycle accident last weekend will be held Tuesday.

The public gathering honoring officer Paul B. Viduya Jr. is scheduled to run from 3 to 6 p.m. at Mundelein High School, 1350 W. Hawley St.

A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Transfiguration Catholic Community, 316 W. Mill St., Wauconda.

Burial is planned for the Church of Holy Apostles, 5211 W. Bull Valley Road, McHenry.

Flowers can be sent to Mundelein High School.

Viduya, 28, of McHenry, died early Sunday after crashing a 2023 Kawasaki Ninja on Charles J. Miller Parkway near McHenry Avenue in McHenry.

He had been a Mundelein police officer since 2022, following a few years as a community service officer in Mundelein and with the Wauconda Police Department.

In his personal time, Paul loved cars, motorcycles, boats or anything else with a motor. He also enjoyed the challenge and discipline of running.

Viduya’s survivors include his parents, Paul Viduya Sr. and Lucero; a brother, Beyza; and a grandmother, Julie Viduya.

The McHenry County Regional Crash Assistance Team, McHenry police, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District and the McHenry County coroner’s office are investigating the crash and seeking witnesses.
