Daily Herald photo contest winners for April 2026
Topping this month’s list is Stefan Popovic’s fantastic photo of his friend Harris taking a spontaneous leap while grocery shopping. The Arlington Heights resident writes, “We enjoy going there a lot to eat and last time we were there I caught this photo and thought it was pretty funny.”
Swinging into second is Mike Weimer’s photo capturing the flickering moment of a hummingbird extending her tongue. The St. Charles resident writes, “I can’t wait to photograph the hummingbirds again this season, when they return around the middle of May. I laugh when I see this photo, because I imagine she is ‘sticking her tongue out at me,’ wanting me to refresh her nectar feeder!”
Jake Joyce’s reflective photo of a tranquil morning at the lake takes the third spot. The Wauconda resident writes, “Loved how the mirroring from the lake captured the somber spring morning mood.”
Coming in fourth is Richard Hanrath’s stately photo of a bull elephant, spotted during a trip to an inland river delta in northern Botswana. The Roselle resident writes, “The setting was majestic: blue sky with some clouds, the African landscape and the elephant being reflected in the waterhole. It was a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity.”
