New Indian fusion restaurant, banquet hall could replace shuttered Golden Corral in Elgin
A new Indian fusion restaurant and banquet hall could be coming to the space formerly occupied by Golden Corral on Randall Road in Elgin. The Elgin Planning and Zoning Commission signed off this week on plans for the new Tulsi Indian Cuisine and Events at 601 S. Randall Road. The restaurant is on the north side of the shopping center that is anchored by Blain’s Farm and Fleet and features a Planet Fitness, Dollar Tree, a dentist’s office and a cosmetology school.
New, larger H-Mart Asian grocery store opens in renovated former Kohl’s site in Schaumburg
A new, larger H-Mart grocery store has opened in a renovated Kohl’s store in Schaumburg, replacing the village’s original decade-old location just blocks away. The latest site of the nation’s largest Asian supermarket chain has 80,000 square feet at 420 E. Golf Road, including a food court and a stage for entertainment. The prior Schaumburg location at 34 E. Schaumburg Road had just under 11,000 square feet, the village’s Economic Development Director Matt Frank said.

An ordinance prohibiting recreational marijuana sales in town could be put to the test with a proposal to open a dispensary in Libertyville. Prairie Retail Holdings LLC wants to operate a cannabis dispensary in a portion of the former Bakers Square, 1195 S. Milwaukee Ave., at the south end of the Greentree Plaza strip center.
Fatpour tapped for downtown Mount Prospect location, parking concerns raised
Mount Prospect trustees approved plans for Fatpour Tap Works in a 6-1 vote, including Mayor Paul Hoefert, voting to provide up to $800,000 in tax increment financing assistance and zoning relief for setback and parking requirements. The restaurant will take over a vacant site at 200 S. Main St. The family-oriented restaurant will feature American fare, special events, sports and a curling lane; no gambling terminals are planned.

Ellis Hawkins was named Wednesday as the new president of Ascension Alexian Brothers hospital in Elk Grove Village, officials announced. He replaces Dan Doherty, who left to become CEO of Northwest Health — Porter in Indiana last October.
Batavia OKs $1.86 million incentive to turn ex-factory into software company HQ
Batavia is poised to provide $1.86 million in aid to renovate a 100-year-old factory into a headquarters for a software company. On Monday, the city council approved a redevelopment agreement with Manhattan Real Estate Ventures LLC for funding work at the former Pamarco factory at 190 S. Water St.
