Dining out: Happy hours, Van’s moving to West Dundee, Leona’s Pizza coming to McHenry

Happy hour

Happy hours are a great way to unwind after a hard (or easy) day. Fat Rosie’s just launched new “fiesta hours” at all seven locations (Frankfort, Lincolnshire, Lincolnwood, Naperville, Oak Brook, Rosemont and Schaumburg), with specials running from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Raise a glass with $6 house, mango and strawberry jalapeño margaritas, $5 cervezas in 12-ounce cans and $2 off mocktails while dining on appetizers such as queso dip cup ($5), flautas ($8), tuna stack ($12), and fiesta nachos with chicken, chorizo or steak ($15, $15, $18).

Seasons 52 has lightened its happy hour with new low-cal offerings from 3-6 p.m. Monday through Friday in the wine bar.

The new $14 flatbread and sip combo pairs one of five flatbreads with a glass of wine, sangria or a cocktail. They also have three new small plates at $8 each — warm goat cheese spread served with wood-grilled sourdough (420 calories), wood-grilled Kona-crusted lamb loin (120 calories) and seared ahi tuna (70 calories).

Enjoy the apps along with a selection of $7 wines and cocktails at the Oak Brook and Schaumburg locations.

Load up the moving van

Van’s Frozen Custard & Burgers, a neighborhood favorite in East Dundee, is temporarily closed as they move across the river.

The new location at 818 W. Main St. in West Dundee will offer a bigger space with more parking and a drive-through.

An opening date has yet to be announced, but they’re keeping customers updated on the progress on their Facebook page.

Coming soon

Leona’s Pizzeria & Restaurant, a Chicago institution approaching its 75th anniversary, is opening a new location in McHenry on Tuesday, July 8.

One of the original Chicago-style pizzerias, Leona’s offers traditional tavern-style thin crust, stuffed deep dish, Sicilian and pan pies in addition to a variety of Italian American comfort foods like pasta and flatbread sandwiches.

The restaurant at 3102 IL-120, just off Elm Street and near Fox Lake, introduces what they say is northern Illinois’ first pizza drive-through.

They’ll hold a ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. Tuesday. In honor of the 75th anniversary, the first 75 guests in line on opening day will receive a free personal pizza.
