Lisle Heritage Society to host series exploring the spiritual side of U.S. leaders
Starting Feb. 23, the Lisle Heritage Society is offering a four-part series as part of our national tradition of celebrating presidents this month.
In “U.S. Presidents as Amateur Theologians,” Benedictine University theology professor Peter Huff will delve into how four of the nation’s Chief Executives have contributed significantly to our nation’s dynamic religious life.
“Religion has always played a prominent role in American public life,” Huff said.
Each talk can stand alone but you’ll want to attend them all. It will be offered at 2 p.m. Sundays, Feb. 23 to March 16, at First Congregational Church, 1006 Ogden Ave. in Lisle. Note: Attendees must navigate some steps to enter.
The series will start with the 3rd president, Thomas Jefferson, followed by the nation’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln on March 2. On March 9, the series continues with the 35th president, John F. Kennedy, followed by the 39th president, Jimmy Carter on March 16.
Huff is chief mission officer and professor of theology at Benedictine University in Lisle. He earned his doctorate degree in Historical Theology. A specialist in U.S. religious history, he has published seven books.
Admission is free, but reservations requested at www.LisleHeritageSociety.org. Light refreshments will be served.
