Safe Boating Class starting Oct. 1

Skokie Valley Sail and Power Squadron will offer America's Boating Course. Every new boater should take this course to learn the rules and responsibilities of boating. Experienced boaters can use this course to become acquainted with changes to the Federal and Illinois boating laws.

Passing the course provides 12 to 18-year-old students with a certificate to operate a boat in Illinois without a parent or guardian aboard. Persons born on or after Jan. 1, 1998, who wish to operate a boat in Illinois, must have a valid Boating Safety Certificate accepted by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Our certificate meets this requirement.

The class will be held from 6:3- to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning Oct. 1 and finishing Oct. 17.

The cost for the class is $50 per person, which includes the text and processing of the final exam. The class will be held at the Mount Prospect police station, 911 E. Kensington Road, Mount Prospect.
