Get wacky this summer at Schaumburg Park District

Get ready for a wacky summer!

Schaumburg Park District's free Wacky Wagon Camp for children ages 6 to 12 will run Monday through Thursday, June 11 to July 19 at Bock Neighborhood Center, 1223 W. Sharon Lane; Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way; and the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Daily camp activities include games and crafts led by camp counselors.

This zany camp features swimming on Tuesdays and Thursdays at each site's pool. The Community Recreation Center site swims at Atcher Island, 730 S. Springinsguth Road. Children must bring a valid pool pass or pay a daily fee of $4 at Bock and Meineke Pools and $5 at Atcher Island. Children must pass a basic swim test before being allowed to swim.

Wacky Wednesdays features picnics and field trips.

This summer's Wacky Wednesdays include picnics at the Community Recreation Center and field trips to Pilot Pete's, the Sport Center, Volkening Lake, Xtreme Trampolines and the Schaumburg Police and Fire Stations. Pre-registration and fees are required. Children must attend camp at least two days prior to participate in field trips. Times vary on Wednesdays for field trips and picnics.

Theme Fridays take place each week at a different site. This summer's activities include a dinosaur dig, around the world day, massive messy fun, the Wacky Wagon Olympics, rock star day and a day filled with water balloons. Pre-registration is required. Fee is $9 for residents and $13 for non-residents. Fee includes a light snack. Children must attend camp at least two days prior to participate in Theme Fridays. Transportation is not included.

A complete calendar of activities is available at each site on the first day of camp.

No registration is required for the free drop-in program on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Fees and pre-registration are available at parkfun.com or District registration facilities for Wacky Wednesdays and Theme Fridays.
