Elgin Theatre Co. holds auditions Oct. 19-20
Elgin Theatre Company will hold auditions for "Leading Ladies," written by Ken Ludwig and directed by Madeline Franklin.
Auditions will be held from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, and 6:30 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at Elgin Academy's Rider Center, fourth floor, off Kimball Street and Dundee Avenue in Elgin. If callbacks are necessary, it will be held from 8 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Audition requirements include 1- to 2-minute contemporary comedic monologue (British accents accepted for Leo and Jack), headshot/resume, and a list of all conflicts. Be prepared to do cold readings from the script. The director may lead you in improv scenes and/or monologues. No appointments are needed.
For information, contact Richard Grieger, producer, at dgremax@gmail.com or (847) 338-0506.
You can also see the ETC website, www.elgin-theatre.org, for driving and parking information.
The cast will be three women and five men; may be understudies for Leo and Jack. Age 20 and older is preferred; no high school students please.
The "Leading Ladies" characters are:
• Meg Snider (early-mid 30s): Local girl, vivacious, warm, great sense of humor. Has unfulfilled dreams of the great big world outside of central Pennsylvania she has yet to experience.
• Duncan Wooley (early 40s): Local minister, engaged to Meg. A good man, but fussy, headstrong, egocentric.
• Doc Myers (mid 50s): Local doctor, Chief Moose, likable curmudgeon, boisterous, stocky, father to Butch.
• Leo Clark (early 40s): A clean shaven, Shakespeare actor from England (yes, English accent required), marginally gifted, charming yet mildly pompous, prone to temper tantrums, longs to achieve stardom.
• Jack Gable (late 30s to early 40s): A clean shaven, Shakespeare actor from England (yes, English accent required), Leo's partner, easily dragged into Leo's harebrained schemes, nice guy, longs to settle down.
• Audrey (age 20): A well-built, extremely sweet and good-natured, an "intelligent airhead." Audrey roller-skates. The director would most likely be really impressed if auditioners showed up with their own roller skates prepared to dazzle.
• Butch Myers (early 20s): A little slow on the uptake, built like he played high school football, sincere.
• Florence Snider (60-plus): An extremely crusty, terrible eyesight, wealthy, wily, ailing … or hypochondriac?
The first rehearsal/read-through will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27. Rehearsals will be Sundays, Mondays and Fridays through mid-November; then Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays; days may vary dependent upon actor conflicts.
Performances will be 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays, Jan. 9-25, at H. Ryder Center in the Kimball Street Theater at Elgin Academy.
It is produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc. This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.
