Girls volleyball: Hersey tops Rolling Meadows in two sets

Trying to reach the Mid-Suburban League championship for the 16th time in 17 years, Hersey's girls volleyball team ran its record to 7-0 in the MSL East with a 25-8, 25-7 win at Rolling Meadows on Thursday night.

"We came out on fire tonight with a dominant team effort," said Huskies coach Nancy Lill, now just 4 wins away from 1,000 for her career. "Kaiya Eshoo was outstanding distributing the ball to all her hitters. Maddie Mullin contributed some outstanding defense."

Eshoo handed out 19 assists while Mullen collected 7 digs.

Kati Kaburov (8 kills, 4 aces), Janine Boyan (5 kills, 2 blocks) and Juliette Vandenherik (4 kills, 3 blocks) led the attack while Olivia Mellen added 4 digs.

Nora Zielke served 3 aces and Kate Lubbe added 3 kills with 2 blocks for the Huskies (18-3), who own a two-game lead in the East with three to play.

Rolling Meadows (8-18, 2-5) was led on attack by Ashlyn Ryan (4 kills,) while Bianca Madey had 1 block and Erin Behls handed out 4 assists. Sophia Salemi collected 5 digs.

Barrington d. Hoffman Estates: The visiting Fillies (10-10, 4-3) posted a 25-14, 25-22 MSL West triumph.

Hoffman (6-10, 1-6) was led by Patricia Wadas (8 kills), Niyah McAllister (4 kills, 3 blocks), Ashley Poland (10 digs) and Emma Essex (10 digs).

Prospect d. Buffalo Grove: Prospect (14-7, 5-2) posted a 25-22, 25-23 MSL East win as Jenna Acosta (10 kills), Grace Cacini (8), Annie Wiley (6) and Ellen Sherwood (2) led the attack set by Sarah Skaggs (24 assists).

Cacini also 3 blocks while Sherwood and Wiley had 2 apiece.

Mia Faraday led the back row with 19 digs.

Buffalo Grove (9-13, 4-3) was led on attack by Megan Mitsunaga (9 kills), Nicole Zdunczyk (5) Jenna Rickman (4) and Ella McBride (4). Rickman also had 3 blocks.

Claire Schnieder handed out 20 assists and Sofiya Savytska had 10 digs.

Conant d. Schaumburg: Led on attack by Danielle Smith (8 kills, 4 blocks) and Yuri Hara (7 digs, 14 digs), visiting Conant (12-13, 4-3) posted a 25-16 26-28 25-20 MSL West triumph.

Mackenzie Lunkes (14 digs), Gianna Spetka (13 digs) and Payton Litney (22 assists) were other key performers for the Cougars.

Wheeling d. Elk Grove: Host Wheeling posted a 25-20, 25-22 MSL East win as Grace Zambrano (7 kills), Emily LaCaeyse (4), Olivia Chavez (3) and Ally Ferraro (3) led the Wildcats' attack. Peyton LaCaeyse added 2 kills and 2 blocks.

Elk Grove (3-22, 0-7) was led by Kaitlin Ingebritgtsen (3 kills, 2 blocks), Megan Murray (4 aces, 18 digs), Katie Hofmann (2 kills) and Gianna Lindell (5 assists).

Maine West d. Highland Park: Host Maine West (12-9, 5-1) earned a 25-17, 23-25, 25-17 CSL North win as Viviana Ramirez (10 kills), Krysta Block (7 kills), Bailey Cassidy (4 blocks) and Clare Olson (27 assists) helped lead the way.

Libertyville d. St. Viator: Host Libertyville (18-6) posted a 25-17, 25-15 nonconference win over St. Viator (10-13) as Wildcats setter Peyton O'Brien reached 1,000 assists for her career.
