Believe Project: $100 to help brighten holidays for the homeless

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is John Spoden of Prospect Heights.

Here is an excerpt of his pitch:

"If I were awarded the $100, I would add $100 of my money and buy 40 $5 McDonald's gift cards. I would have a local church distribute the cards to the Public Action to Deliver Shelter attendees during Christmas week.

"In our area, PADS is seven local churches providing shelter to the homeless one night a week during the winter months.

"Last year I was lucky enough to be awarded $100 and after adding my $100 and contributions from friends was able to purchase $325 worth of McDonald's gift cards. It gave me such a wonderful feeling, I thought I would try again this year."

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
