Free memory loss support group for caregivers now offered twice a month at The Holmstad

The Holmstad Helping Hearts, a free memory loss support group for caregivers offered at The Holmstad, is now offered the first and third Thursday of the month, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Town Center classroom at The Holmstad, 700 W. Fabyan Parkway, Batavia.

Registration is not required to attend the support group, but you must reserve a spot for your loved one requiring care by calling Brenda Lowden, RN, at (630) 879-4034 or emailing her at BJLowden@covenantretirement.org. The care is provided free of charge.

The Holmstad Helping Hearts is a safe, confidential place to come and talk about your experience as a caregiver, meet new people, and learn and share ideas. Group topic discussions include open topic questions and discussion; managing and coping with difficult behaviors; self care and coping skills; safety issues; connecting with your loved one who has dementia; stress management; telling others about the diagnosis and establishing boundaries; holiday blues/grief and loss; and acceptance and letting go. Educational materials and referral services will be provided. Refreshments will be served.

Licensed clinical social worker Jeanne Marie Snarich will lead the group. She has more than 20 years of experience and is a graduate of the University of Chicago's School of Social Service Administration. She holds a master of arts degree in clinical social work with a concentration on family systems. Snarich has a broad scope of expertise with a focus on providing individual and group counseling to residents and families at The Holmstad and in the community, and she especially enjoys working with families and older adults.
