Upcoming SCORE Suburban Programs Offer Assistance to a Variety of Audiences

Buffalo Grove, IL - Over the coming months, the local Chicago SCORE chapter will offer a variety of free programs in the northwest suburbs and other areas. These programs aim to help small business owners and potential entrepreneurs grow their businesses. Great opportunities to learn more about business applications abound as the calendar fills with program offerings for September through the end of 2015. All of these are open to the public.

Among the free September seminars being offered is "Social Media 101: The Basics of Social Media for Small Businesses," held on Wednesday, September 9. The talk will be held at the Highland Park Public Library, located at 494 Laurel Avenue in Highland Park from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Constant Contact representative Norbert Barszczewski will help clear up the confusion that can occur when reviewing social media and take a look at the five most popular social media networks - Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and Pinterest; he will help those attending decide which is best for their businesses.

That same night, September 9, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a session called "LinkedIn 201: Action Steps to Build Your Brand, Expand Your Network," will be held in Lincolnshire at the Vernon Area Public Library, located at 300 Olde Half Day Road. SCORE volunteer Michael Yublosky will conduct this LinkedIn follow up session, providing an overview of LinkedIn, its primary benefits, the best tools to use and suggestions for immediate steps that can be taken to build brands, expand networks, increase visibility and find more qualified prospects. The program will be hands on in the library's computer lab.

Among the other September seminars taking place is "Content Marketing 101: Today's Key to Getting Found on the Internet and Google," being held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Barrington Public Library, located at 505 N. Northwest Highway in Barrington on Thursday, September 10. Current Internet marketing techniques depend heavily on influencing clients and prospects by creating and sharing the relevant information they search for. Learn some of the whys and how to's of developing and presenting information to solve people's problems and answer their questions rather than turning them off with direct advertising.

On Tuesday, September 15, Vanessa Cabrera, a constant contact representative, will discuss how to best use Constant Contact in "Campaigns that Drive Action: Newsletters and Announcements," from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, located at 500 N. Dunton Avenue in Arlington Heights. Marketing activities help small businesses and organizations achieve their goals and objectives. This session will reveal some simple but effective best practices and considerations for small businesses seeking to gather information to allow them to gain valuable insights from their audiences and move their organization forward.

The Palatine Public Library, located at 700 N. North Court, will host an opportunity for its Peer Entrepreneur Group to learn more about "SCORE: Introduction and Overview," from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 24. SCORE volunteer and program coordinator Michael Yublosky, will provide insights into how SCORE offers free, lifetime and confidential mentoring to small businesses and startups, along with educational programs and business tools. Consulting services also are available to businesses with a specific growth potential.

On Monday, September 28, the Warren Newport Public Library, located at 224 N. O'Plaine Road in Gurnee, will host "Facebook 101: The Small Business Beginner's Guide to Marketing," from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Presenter Andy Nathan, Smart at the Start principal, will show participants how Facebook can accomplish much more than just allow people to talk to friends and family. It can actually be used to benefit businesses. He will cover some of the best strategies and tools for setting up a Facebook profile, crafting a fan page and creating a Facebook ad.

Tuesday, September 29, at PSPrint a Deluxe Company, located at 1600 East Touhy Avenue in Des Plaines, the discussion will focus on "Grow Your Small Business through LinkedIn Networking and Marketing" from 7:45 to 10:15 a.m. SCORE volunteer Michael Yublosky will show how LinkedIn is no longer merely for job search but can be used to market any business-to-business (B2B) or business-to-consumer (B2C) small business. He will provide information to help businesses build their brands, expand their networks, increase their visibility and find more qualified prospects.
