Baker Memorial UMC hosts Wedding Vow Reaffirmation Ceremony
Baker Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Charles is celebrating its 60th anniversary in its current location this year.
As part of the festivities, the church invites area couples to celebrate with it and participate in a Wedding Vow Reaffirmation Ceremony at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the church, 307 Cedar Ave. All couples interested in renewing their commitments to one another are welcome to participate, and to bring their guests as well.
"We're excited to be celebrating our rich history in the St. Charles community and want to invite as many people as possible to join in. Hundreds of couples have been married in this building and we'd love for as many as possible to return and reaffirm their commitment to one another here. However, you do not have to have been married at Baker to participate," said the Rev. Mary Zajac. "When we marry as young adults, it's difficult to grasp what 'better or worse' might actually mean. When a couple has faced the challenges of adulthood together, those original vows come to mean a great deal. This is a chance to not only reaffirm those vows, but to honor their commitment to one another."
The ceremony, to be held in Baker Memorial's sanctuary, will resemble a couple's first trip down the aisle in many ways, with candle light, music and flowers. Following the ceremony, couples and their guests are invited to a brief reception in the church's Baker Hall.
"One of the couples planning to attend will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary shortly after the vow reaffirmation. Their daughter, who will be attending with her fiancé, is getting married here next summer. What a wonderful way to commemorate both days," commented Pastor Mary Zajac.
Registration is required. Call the Baker Memorial office at (630) 584-6680 or visit their website, bakermemorialchurch.org to sign up.
