2nd Annual First Responders Family Fest Comes to Northwest Suburbs

The 2nd annual First Responders Challenge Family Fest is coming to Palatine's Deer Grove East Forest Preserve on Saturday, August 22, 2015.

The first year event was held in Downers Grove, where Morton Grove Police Department came in 1st place, Oakbrook Terrace Fire Department placed 2nd and Addison Police Department took 3rd place.

"The excitement generated as spectators root on their favorite team really is palpable," said Aaron Del Mar, owner of Adrenaline Sports Management, the event company presenting the event. "This year, we have added a number of other exciting challenges and attractions for the entire family."

Among those events are a Youth 1-Mile Run that will kick off the day at 8:30 a.m., followed by a 5K Run/Walk at 9 a.m.

The marquis event - the First Responders Challenge - will begin at 11 a.m., where police and firemen, EMT's and members of the public will compete in an obstacle challenge, including a tire flip/hose run, strength and endurance circuit, tug-of-war, team relay and potato sack race.

The top three placing teams will win trophies, and the event winner will receive event proceeds to donate to the charity of their choice.

A dunk tank and inflatable bounce house will add to the family fun, and food and beverages will be available for purchase. The event-packed day will conclude with a tug-of-war challenge at noon, and a water balloon toss and fight at 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.

All events are open to the public.

Registration is still open. Participants must register individually for each event through the website, at http://firstrespondersfamilyfest.com/.

So bring on your skills and determination, and enjoy a day of family fun to cap off summer!
