NWHP Offers Handyman and Home Repair Programs in NW Suburbs
North West Housing Partnership is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit based in Schaumburg that provides an affordable Handyman Program and an Owner Occupied Single Family Repair Program for residents of the Northwest Suburbs with low to moderate incomes. An array of other free programs are available that assist individuals with home ownership through education, down payment assistance and other services.
HANDYMAN PROGRAM
Residents of Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Mount Prospect, Palatine and Rolling Meadows who are 65 years of age or older or disabled may qualify for an affordably priced Handyman Program.
Fees range from $10-$30 per hour depending on household income. Examples of minor repairs and home improvements included in the NWHP Handyman Program include (but are not limited to): grab bar installation, hanging curtains, garbage disposal repair, light fixtures, gutter cleaning, toilet, and faucet and window repairs. There is also a special home modification program where a grant of up to $1,500 can be awarded.
All work is performed by insured, experienced and reliable home repair professionals. Emergency repairs, plumbing and lawn maintenance are not approved services within the handyman program.
OWNER OCCUPIED SINGLE FAMILY REPAIR PROGRAM
In partnership with the City of Des Plaines, the Village of Hoffman Estates and the Village of Schaumburg, NWHP administers an Owner Occupied Single Family Repair Program for residents of the above municipalities.
Homeowners who qualify for this program can receive assistance to correct code violations and address overdue repairs that affect the health and safety of homeowners. Improvements included in the program include: basic structural repairs, roofs, doors and windows, electrical, plumbing, heating and weatherization.
Energy Star materials are required where applicable, and homeowners must meet certain criteria to qualify for the program. Homeowners who live in Schaumburg or Hoffman Estates can qualify to receive up to $25,000 - and Des Plaines can qualify for up to $20,000.
