Hersey edges out Palatine

Hersey's boys volleyball team improved to 6-1 with a 27-25, 25-23 victory over visiting Palatine on Thursday in a matchup of two of last year's strongest Mid-Suburban League programs.

Matt Torvik had a team-best 9 kills and Angelo Coniglio had 7 for the Huskies. Fotis Christacos came up with 21 digs; Jordan Saeed had 4 blocks while Mike Fuerst and Matt Aguilar had 2 each and Peter Wesolowski had a team best 17 setting assists (29-for-31).

Schaumburg d. Meadows: The Saxons prevailed 25-18, 25-27, 25-22 in an MSL crossover.

Bozhidar Kolev led Schaumburg's attack with 8 kills, while Stephen Knitter and Cameron Nolan had 7 apiece. Romario Rios had a team-high 10 digs, Nidhin Thomas had 30 assists and Kolev also served 6 aces..

Meadows' top efforts came from Tom Srnak (10 kills), Jose Cruz (13 digs) and Enrique Avellaneda (13 assists, 31-for-34 setting).

Elk Grove d. Hoffman Estates: The Grens improved to 4-2 with a 25-18, 25-15 victory over the visiting Hawks.

Senior Sam Ostlin led Elk Grove with 7 kills on 10-for-11 hitting. Other Grens leaders included Ray Kraus (20 assists) and Karl Freidenfelds (14-for-14 serving, 2 aces). Ostling, Geoffrey Dybicz and Kevin Wickstrom had 3 blocks each, and Ostling was 8-for-8 serving with 4 aces.

Prospect d. Conant: The host Knights prevailed 25-14, 25-17 as Eryk Krzyzak was 11-for-11 on attack with a team-best 6 kills and also had 9 digs. Other key contributors for Prospect were Grant Andler (2 aces, 4 kils), Alex Blethen (5 kills), Jacob Schwister (14 assists) and Bryan Velasquez (11-for-11 serve receive).

Barrington at WW South tournament: The Broncos picked up a pair of wins in tournaments play, besting Waubonsie Valley 25-23, 21-25, 33-31 and St. Rita 25-17, 25-16.

Connor Wright led the way in kills with 21, Colin Castagna had a team-best 3 blocks plus 12 kills, Noah Ricchetti had 19 digs and 63 setting assists and Justin Glader had 14 kills.
