Briefs: Center to hold party

The Lake County Center for Independent Living will hold its annual meeting and holiday party Tuesday. The event is set to run from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church of Libertyville, 431 Austin Ave., Libertyville. The group will commend those people and organizations that have contributed to the disabled community and elect officers for 2008. Wrap and help dance team

The Vernon Hills High School dance team will be wrapping gifts at the Westfield Hawthorn mall in Vernon Hills today and Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Center Court. No fee will be charged to have purchases wrapped in holiday wrappings and bows, but donations to help the team defray costs incurred during the upcoming competition season will be accepted.

Free concert in Grayslake

The band Eight 28 will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at The Vine Martini and Wine Bar, 101 Center St., in downtown Grayslake. Eight 28 is a Christian musical group made up of veteran singers and musicians from Shepherd of the Lakes Lutheran Church in Grayslake. Admission is free.

CLC offers gift cards

The College of Lake County's business services and finance office is offering gift cards that can be redeemed for tuition, books, fees or food for use by CLC students. To purchase a card, come to one of the windows at the cashier's office, room A101 on the Grayslake campus, 19351 W. Washington St. The office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until Dec. 21. Cash, credit and debit cards and checks are accepted, and purchasers may choose the gift card amount they desire. For more information, call (847) 543-2085.

Fox Lake mulls 911 center

The Fox Lake village board will host a committee of the whole meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday. The committee meeting will discuss the public safety consultant report regarding the future of the village's 911 emergency dispatch center. The meeting is open to the public, though public comment will not be allowed.
