Ceiling collapses at center
A ceiling collapse on Sunday afternoon in an Aurora Township skating center sent four kids and one adult to the hospital with scrapes and bruises. Shortly before 2:40 p.m., part of the ceiling came down in the arcade area of Aurora Skate Center, 34W113 Montgomery Road in Aurora Township, said Lt. Pat Gengler, of the Kane County Sheriff's Department. The roughly 200 persons inside at the time were evacuated. The injured were taken to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora with minor injuries, Gengler said. The cause of the collapse is still being investigated, he said.
New assistant manager
Blaine Wing, an assistant village administrator in Cary, has been hired as the new assistant village manager in Oak Brook. Wing comes with eight years of village government experience, having also worked in south suburban Flossmoor and Battle Creek, Mich. Blaine was one of 70 applicants for the position. He will begin his new job Jan. 7.
Women donate $10,600
The 100(+) Women Who Care community service club recently donated $10,600 to Glen Ellyn-based Bridge Communities. The service club consists of 166 DuPage County women who have committed to gather four times per year, and, at each gathering, donate $100 to a local charity. Chorus seeks women
Ladies, do you like to sing? Village Vocal Chords is seeking women who are eager and able to perform. The suburban chorus performs at a championship level but needs a little help with finding singing women. The group sings four-part a cappella harmony in barbershop style. Members travel from all over Northeast Illinois and Indiana for Tuesday evening rehearsals, which resume Jan. 8. Bloomingdale book due
The first book of Bloomingdale's history, as told in photographs and captions, is due out in March. The volume covers Bloomingdale from 1832 through the village's 150th anniversary in 1983. The Bloomingdale Historical Society has ordered a limited number of copies of the first run. Copies will be available for sale by the village's 175th anniversary March 11.
