St. Viator reigns as Snowflake champion
St. Viator enjoyed some home cooking this week.
With a 49-44 victory over Highland Park on Saturday, the Lions climbed to 8-9 overall by going 5-0 and winning the championship of their own 25th annual Snowflake tourney.
To claim the crown, the Lions prevailed over the Giants behind senior Jenny Muench (16 points), junior Kelly Hendricks (9 points) and junior Katelyn Orlowski (7).
Sophomore Susan Hohenadel made 4 of 4 free throws in the final 22 seconds to seal the win.
Muench, who was selected the tournament MVP, senior Tori Callero and Hohenadel all received all-tourney recognition.
At Wheaton North
Hersey 56, Elk Grove 44: Hersey received 18 points from junior Kelly Rogowski and 16 from senior Sarah Stoltzner while using an 11-4 third-quarter run to break open a close game and defeat Mid-Suburban East rival Elk Grove 56-44 for seventh place at the Bill Neibch Falcon Classic.
Rogowski and Stoltzner combined for 7 of Hersey's 11 points in the third quarter.
The Huskies (2-2 in tourney), who were unseeded in the tourney and defeated two seeded teams while falling to the No. 1 and No. 4, seeds, shot 5 of 7 at the line in the fourth quarter to protect the lead.
Leading Elk Grove (11-6) was Ashley Capatosto with 16 points.
Hersey (5-10) has been the visitor for 14 of its 15 games this season.
At Mundelein
Cary-Grove 60, Conant 58: Conant (14-3) was led by Michelle Rawleigh (22 points), Emma Loos (9) and Danielle Ladehoff (8) in the third-place game.
Libertyville 54, Rolling Meadows 19: Senior Alexa Bennett, who scored 6 points, was named to the all-tourney team for the Mustangs (4-12).
